Your safety is always our top priority. When you ride or drive with Hitchhyke, you can share your location with friends and family.
What information do we share
- When you share your trip location with someone, they’ll get a link that shows them the following:
- For Drivers:
- Your name, profile image, & contact information
- Your vehicle details
- Your approximate GPS location
- Your ride status
- How long you’ve been driving for (on each trip).
It is important to note that location sharing is done on a per-trip basis. After a trip ends, the link will no longer be valid, and a new link will have to be generated for any new trips. - For Riders:
- Your name & contact information
- Your approximate GPS location
- Your ride status
- Your Pickup & Drop-off Locations
- Your Pickup & Drop-off Times
- Your Trip Route
- How long you’ve been on that trip for
- The type of vehicle you’re riding in
- The vehicle's license plate number
It is important to note that location sharing is done on a per-trip basis. After a trip ends, the link will no longer be valid, and a new link will have to be generated for any new trips.

Types of location sharing
- There are three scenarios in which your location will be shared:
- Auto-share with my trusted contacts:
- This setting is on by default for each new trusted client you add. Click here to see what information we share with your trusted contacts (Sharing your location with friends and family: What information do we share).
- Manually share with my friends & family:
- Your location is not shared automatically but the icon still appears for you to start sharing when you want to.
- You can tap on the Share Location icon to start sharing your location. Click here to see what information we share with your friends and family.
- Emergency assistance during a ride:
- If you need emergency assistance during a ride, you can discreetly request help by tapping the panic button in the app.
