How to accept a ride
Updated
by Hitchhyke Admin
As a Hitchhyke driver, understanding the process of accepting a ride is key to ensuring a smooth and efficient ridesharing experience. This guide will walk you through the process from the moment you receive a ride request to when you confirm your first passenger.
Receiving Ride Requests
Once you go online and set your trip preferences, nearby passengers' ride requests will start appearing on your screen. You can receive up to four requests simultaneously.
Each ride request card will display vital information, including
- the pickup date and time (for scheduled rides, it shows the specific time, while for immediate rides, it shows "Now").
- the number of seats requested,
- the pickup and drop-off distances, times, and approximate locations.
- the amount you will earn from the trip
- the type of payment method the passenger will be using (cash or card).

Reviewing Ride Requests
To get a detailed view of a ride request, tap on the corresponding card. This will reveal additional information, such as
- the passenger's first name, gender, avatar image, and verification status.
- the total number of trips the passenger has taken and their overall rating.
At this stage, you should review the information thoroughly to decide whether you want to accept or reject the ride.

Accepting or Rejecting a Ride
To accept a ride, swipe the 'Accept' button located at the bottom of the screen. The passenger will be notified, and the trip details will be saved in your 'Upcoming Trips' tab.
If you wish to decline the ride,
- swipe down from the top of the screen. This will bring you back to the ride request card screen.
- From here, you can swipe left or right to reject the ride request.
Note: You won't receive any new ride requests until you either accept or reject one of the existing requests. For Immediate rides, you're given a 2 minute time limit to review and accept a ride request. After which, the ride request will be auto-rejected. For scheduled rides, you have up to 30 minutes before the scheduled pickup time to accept or reject the ride request. There is no auto-rejection for scheduled rides.
This system is designed to prevent overload and allow you ample time to evaluate each request.
Whether you're a seasoned driver or just getting started, we hope this guide makes the process of accepting rides straightforward and easy. With Hitchhyke, every ride is an opportunity, so let's hit the road and drive!
