Unfortunately, Phishing scams and email fraud are ways scammers trick you into giving them your personal information. They do this to steal your earnings and compromise your account. Below are ways to identify scammers and protect your account.
Personal info
- Hitchhyke will only ever request personal information via in-app notifications. We will also provide any and all details on how respond to those requests via in-app notifications.
- In the event that Hitchhyke needs to contact you via phone, text, or e-mail, we will notify you before-hand via in-app notifications and wait for your approval before doing so.
- Any communication that does not begin in the Hitchhyke App may not be Hitchhyke. If that is the case, and you didnt reach out to us first, the best thing to do is hang up or ignore the message.
Phishing
- Phishing scams try to trick users into giving out account or personal info. Phishers use this info to log into your account, impersonate you, and even steal your earnings.
- Phishing attempts can happen over phone, text, or email. If you suspect fraudulent behavior, simply ignore the conversation. As a reminder, all Hitchhyke-intiated interactions will begin in the app.
- Below is an example of phishing. This scam uses a text message to send users to a fake website where their account info will be stolen.
Email & Text fraud
- Hitchhyke will only send you emails & texts from the following:
- @hitchhyke.us
- @hitchhykeofficial.com
- Be cautious of messages claiming to be from Hitchhyke that aren’t from any of the above domains or phone numbers. These messages can include malicious attachments or links to spam and phishing sites.
- If you get a Hitchhyke email that isn’t from one of these addresses, don’t open any of the links and delete the email.
How to handle suspicious activity
- Here’s how we recommend dealing with suspicious or fraudulent contacts:
- Phone calls: hang up immediately
- Text message: don’t open links or respond to sender
- Email: don’t open links and don’t download any attachments. Delete suspicious emails you see in your inbox.
