by Hitchhyke Admin
Hitchhyke is committed to creating a secure community for all of our users. Account verification forms an essential part of this commitment. This article explains the process of account verification for both riders and drivers.
Rider Verification
Optional Verification During Sign-Up
While creating your Hitchhyke account, you can choose to verify your account. To do so, you'll need to provide:
- A copy of your government-issued ID (driver's license, national ID, or passport)
- Proof of address
- A police record
The photo on your ID must match your verification image. Although this step is optional during sign-up, we highly recommend it as it improves your chances of securing rides, especially with drivers who prefer verified riders.
Re-Verification
If your documents expire or the simply need to be updated, you can re-verify your account at any time. Simply click on the "Verify My Account" link in the app, next to your profile avatar, and follow the prompts.
You will receive notifications at various intervals to remind you of any expiring documents. If your documents expire, you'll lose your "verified" status and will need to re-verify your account with updated documents.
A verified rider will have a blue checkmark at the bottom-right of their avatar, similar to the verification checkmarks on Twitter and Instagram.

Note: Only verified riders will have the ability to use the Direct Hyke feature on Hitchhyke.
Driver Verification
Re-Verification
Driver verification is mandatory during the account registration process. However, there might be instances where you'll need to re-verify your account:
- Your driver or vehicle documents have expired.
- You need to update your driver or vehicle documents.
Notifications will be sent at various intervals to remind you of any expiring documents. If your documents expire, you will not be able to go online or receive ride requests until you submit the updated documents.
Aside from expiry, you can upload updated versions of your documents at any time. To do so, simply click the "Verify My Account" link in the app, next to your profile picture.
Maintaining a verified status enhances trust among the Hitchhyke community and ensures a smoother, safer ride-sharing experience. If you have any questions about the verification process, our support team is always ready to assist. Let's drive with confidence on every journey with Hitchhyke!
