As a driver with Hitchhyke, you have an important role in ensuring toll costs are accurately reflected in the fares. Our User Input Method for toll calculation allows you to manually enter tolls, which are then confirmed by riders. This method maintains accuracy and flexibility, especially in regions without automated toll data.
How the User Input Method Works:
Phase 1: Pre-Pickup
- Enter Anticipated Tolls: While on your way to the pickup location, enter any expected toll fees into the app.
- Automatic Approval: These toll fees are automatically approved and added to the initial fare.
- Rider Notification: The rider is notified that toll fees have been added to the fare. No action is required from the rider at this stage.
Phase 2: Post-Pickup
- Prompt for Toll Entry: At the end of the rider, after you select "Drop Off Passenger," you will be prompted to enter any tolls incurred during the trip.
- Enter Additional Tolls: Input the toll amounts at this time if applicable.
- Rider Confirmation: The rider must confirm the added toll fees for them to be included in the final fare.
- Complete the Trip: After all tolls are entered and confirmed, you can complete the trip process.
Key Considerations:
- Enter Tolls at Trip End: It's crucial to enter all toll fees at the end of the trip to ensure no tolls are missed.
- Max/Min Toll Limits: We've set maximum and minimum toll amounts to reflect the region's toll rates.
- Toll Entry Limit: There's a limit on the number of tolls you can enter per ride to prevent errors.
- Rider Confirmation: Remember that tolls entered after you've indicated you've arrived ("I'm here") need rider confirmation.
- End of Trip Scenarios:
- If a rider rejects a toll post-pickup, it will not be included in the fare.
- If a rider confirms the toll, the fare will be updated accordingly.
- Adjusting Toll Charges:
- You can remove toll charges before ending the trip.
- Once added, toll charges can't be updated but can be removed and re-entered if needed.
Rider Preferences:
- Avoiding Tolls: If a rider requests to avoid toll roads, you should plan a route accordingly and adjust the fare by removing the anticipated toll fee.
This system is designed to be fair to both riders and drivers, ensuring that you are compensated for any tolls while giving riders the option to confirm these costs.
If you encounter any disputes or issues with toll entries or rider confirmations, please report the issue immediately on the trip in the Hitchhyke app. Our support team is here to assist you with any discrepancies to ensure a fair resolution.
