Welcome to Hitchhyke, where we prioritize the safety and comfort of our riders and drivers alike. To ensure a consistent standard across our platform, we've established a set of vehicle requirements that all Hitchhyke drivers must adhere to. This article will guide you through these requirements.

Vehicle Age and Size

Your vehicle must be no more than 15 years old to meet our safety and reliability standards. Additionally, it should have at least four (4) doors and five (5) seatbelts (including the driver's), to cater for multiple passengers.

Vehicle Documentation

To verify that your vehicle is legally authorized and safe for use, we require the following documents:

  1. Valid Insurance: Your insurance policy must be current, and the driver should be listed as a covered person on the policy. This policy must be uploaded to your profile for verification.
  2. Fitness Certificate: A valid fitness certificate from an approved institution should be uploaded. This certificate indicates that your vehicle is roadworthy and fit for use.
  3. Vehicle Registration: A copy of your valid vehicle registration must be uploaded. This document serves as proof that your vehicle is legally registered to operate.

Vehicle Images

To assess the condition of your vehicle and to allow passengers to identify it, we require clear images of both the interior and exterior.

  • Exterior: Upload pictures showing the front, back, and both sides of the vehicle. The front and back images should clearly display the license plate, while the side images should capture all points along the side of the vehicle.
  • Interior: Upload pictures of the inside of the vehicle. The images must clearly show the seats, seatbelts, floor, and roof.

Expiry Notifications and Suspension

Our system is designed to alert you about expiring vehicle documents. You'll receive in-app notifications at regular intervals to remind you to renew these documents. If any of your vehicle documents expire, your account will be temporarily suspended, and you will no longer be able to receive ride requests until you upload the updated document.

Currently, drivers will receive notifications 30 days, 10 days, and 24 hours before each vehicle document expires.

Issues During Registration

My Vehicle Isn't Available

If you encounter the issue of your vehicle not being available during the registration process, don't worry! We understand that certain vehicle models or makes might not be listed in our database initially. At Hitchhyke, we are continuously expanding our vehicle compatibility to accommodate a wide range of makes and models.

To address this issue, you can reach out to our support team or use the "Contact Us" form on our website or the "Support Request" button in the app. Let us know the details of your vehicle, including its make, model, and any other relevant information. Our dedicated team will work diligently to update our database and ensure your vehicle is added as soon as possible.
