How to navigate a ride

Hitchhyke Admin Updated by Hitchhyke Admin

As a driver, you're there to get the passenger from point A to point B while providing a delightful experience. Continue reading for everything you need to know about navigating your Hitchhyke ride.

How to give a ride

At the top of the screen, slide the off button to the On position to start receiving ride requests.

Once you're online, follow these steps:

  1. When you get a ride request, you'll see a notification with the ride details. Follow these instructions to accept.
  2. Tap the navigate icon to navigate to the pickup location.
  3. Tap ‘I’m here’ when you’re at the pickup location.
  4. Tap ‘Slide to start ride’ when the passenger gets in to start the ride.
  5. Tap the navigate icon to begin navigation, then drive the rider to their destination.
  6. Tap ‘Slide to drop off passenger’ when you arrive at the drop-off location.
  7. Rate your passenger manually, or let the timer finish to auto-rate the passenger 5 stars.

Changes to the address or multiple stops

Changes to the address or multiple stops

Currently, we do not allow passengers to change their drop-off location or add a stop during a ride.

If the rider requires multiple stops, instruct them to create new trips with you directly for each new stop.

If the rider requires a change in the destination address, you can can end the ride prematurely and instruct the rider to create a new trip with you directly.

How to end a ride prematurely

A prematurely ended ride is one that is ended outside of the designated drop-off location. To end a ride prematurely,

  • Don’t cancel the ride — this will cancel the whole ride, and you won’t be paid for the part that you drove.
  • Instead, tap ‘Slide to drop off.’

Note: A prematurely ended ride will not pay the same amount as seen in the Upfront pay. Instead, the amount you earn will be recalculated based on your distance from the drop-off location. If your distance from the original drop-off location is somehow greater than or equal to the distance between the original pickup and original drop-off locations, you will not be paid for that ride.

Some passengers have a preferred route and will ask you to follow their directions instead of the app. For most Hitchhyke rides, this is OK, and we recommend letting them call the shots, within reason.

It's up to you whether you follow a passenger's directions. Keep in mind that they're paying for a ride from you and can rate you at the end based on their experience.

With that said, bear in mind that the amount you earn on a Hitchhyke ride is calculated based on a designated route provided by the platform. While you are allowed to take alternate routes, your earnings will remain the same, regardless of the chosen route. In the event that an alternate route includes tolls or any additional fees, your earnings will not automatically include those tolls or amounts. You will have the opportunity enter those amounts at the end of the trip.
